Blooming at present...

Went out to work in my greenhouse for the first time since Thanksgiving and was gratified to see that in my absence, the following had decided to bloom:

Bulbophyllum medusae

Etlingera elatior Pink Torch

Etlingera elatior Red Torch

Heliconia stricta Sharonii

Heliconia stricta Bucky

ALpinia purpurata Ginoza

Alpinia purpurata Red

Alpinia purpurata Eileen MacDonald (Pink)

and practically every Billbergia bromeliad I own!

WHat's blooming for you at the moment?

Just 14 days til Solstice, no?? Days will be getting LONGER!!!!!!!

    Hi
Several types of hybrid Cattleya orchids.3 dendrobiums
Water lilies and flower here and there on the Yesterday ,Brunfelsia/. About everthing else was flattened by Wilma though it looks like everything will recover.
If we pass the solstice that means hurricane season is getting closer??.I'm hoping winter will last a couple more months longer this year lol

Since the weather has got cooler we are taking advantage of cleaning up a bit in our garden. It's absolutely beautiful and so full of blooms now.

Pomegranate, Arabian Jasmine, Box Orange, Orange Jasmine, Aloe, Rosemary, Gardenia, Buttonwood, Ariocarpus, Mammillaria, Sage,
Fairy Duster, Sansevieria, Bougainvilla, Alyssum, Gerbera, Dyssodia, Euphorbia, BOP, Haworthia, Gasteria, Basil, Tabernaemontana,
    and Draceana,

I collected a lot of African Daisy seeds this year and want to grow them in a dedicated area instead of all over the yard. I should get a head
    start planting seeds soon.

That must be quite a show. As usual I am jealous of your green thumb.

Most of my heliconias are just trying to come back from Wilma. Sharonii is the only bloomer at the moment, too short for serious wind damage I guess. Most will not grow much now until it warms up.

Several Aechmeas are putting on a show, including Blue tango, gamosepala, and a few new ones that I hope to ID now that they are blooming, including the one the looks like gamosepala but is colored different. And, my bilbergias are blooming like crazy.

The only alpinia blooming at the moment is Kimi, which I got from you, and never stops blooming

To be honest, I took a break from gardening. I think hurricane damage two years in a row made me evaluate the amount of effort I had been putting in, so lately, taking my son fishing on the new boat is winning most every time over working in the yard. Now that Alex is certified for Scuba, it might get worse.

Can certainly empathize with you. Wilma took out my small shadehouse which I'd just repaired from Frances. large shadehouse was damaged enough that i can't keep the birds in it and though most of my plantings are coming back they look pretty sad right now.
Don't know if I will rebuild or not. The long range forecasts aren't too encouraging for the years to come either.
if you get seriously into SCUBA it will give you a place to put excess money lol It is an incredible experience but soooo expensive.

    Gary,

I have been certified Scuba for years, so I understand the expense. My son Alex is certified at 13 years old. As soon as it warms up a bit in the spring we should diving quite a bit.
