First fruit set and minor problem with Green Doctors

The first to set fruit this year is Danko, its in a 15 gallon pot. Kind of surprised at this because New Big Dwarf was planted in a pot at the same time and it has yet to set fruit.

Picture below is of Green Doctors. We are in a mini heat wave here and while most of the plant recovered from the heat over night, this branch did not. I'm hoping that it will just loose this branch. I dont want to see a progressive downfall of this guy.

Damon, just let that branch fall off naturally and I know you're going to like Green Doctors.

And yes, Danko is surprisingly early for a nice red heart.

Carolyn- Good to know about Danko. Today is the pedicted peak of this heat wave at 95, and then a gradual cool down starting tomorrow. It cant come sooner because GD is starting to look even worse, my fingers will be crossed.

GD did that for me. All plants. I've had a few other lines do the same. They seem stunted (alomst as if they received some kind of mild herbicide) and then once it got into the heat of summer they stopped doing that.

Your right, it's a minor problem.

The major problem with GD comes later.

I occasionally have this unexplained random branch wilting happen with a few plants each year (and no, I don't have any fungal or bacterial wilts in my soil.)

Not much, maybe just 1-5 plants or so out of 150-200, and it is usually very minor. I mostly see this when plants are young (almost never when they are mature), and especially when there are extreme swings in temp and sunlight, which I get a lot here in the spring. My "theory" is that part of it might have to do with root development not quite perfectly keeping up and efficiently dealing with locating water to all of the quickly emerging top growth.

Yep, usually minor - as others said. Just let clip the wilt off or let it just be, whichever. Btw, whatever you do, don't be tempted to give any plants that do this water when they don't need it in an attempt to baby them. Might do more harm than good.

The major problem with GD comes later.

    ;)

I know you don't like most greens, and I don't either, but I found GD tastes pretty good when almost dry farmed and/or planted in a 'neglected' area that doesn't get the usual regular watering with your soaker hoses (little/no supplemental water unless the plant actually starts to wilt) and also best grown in really good sun and heat. IOW, not a good choice for me here for fall crop, tends to lean more towards insipid/funky, I found.

Ah, well - you still may not like it even then, but growing it like that improved the taste immensely for me.
