OMG!!! What big fruits! Where did you get your tree? I want to order one just like yours. Please let me know where you got your tree. Is all gefner variety this big? I'm drooling....:)

I am in Jamaica. got plants and bud wood from a friend years ago. For me gefner averages about a pound, so these are pretty big. Also I have never seen one this big that hadn't been hand pollinated.

I cut back trees to about 8 feet every year. This is about our main time for harvest here, with a small crop maybe in January. yes at that time there is very little leaves and sun burn can be a problem.
To get this i will sometimes prune a small amount of limbs and hand pollinate the flowers that appear with the new flush.

These are exciting photographs! Now tell us how delicious the fruit was so we can be really envious! I'm guess those intriguing brownish to reddish purplish fruits are unlabeled because your aren't sure of their parentage? I received a Kampong Mauve months ago that doing fabulously but far from bearing to show color. How would you compare flavor in your winter crop to this crop in general or has it been inconsistent?

ok, fruit was DELICIOUS. But they usually are unless for some reason they were dropping or cracking prematurely.

I got the purplish fruit (they are the same type) years ago from nursery in Florida as m-1 atemoya. I some times refrain from using the 'atemoya' because of reservations as to it truly being an atemoya. It is much more like a sweet sop than atemoya.
When I did research back then I was told that it was a Mexican cultivator imported by a Florida Nursery.

Most times I am surprised at the flavor of the winter fruits. I always expect it to be inferior but usually almost as good.

I had done some multigafts in the past , but most died(even though got a couple fruits) as stated else where I think it was because I didn't cut back tree enough and the grafts lacked vigor and eventually died or were over run.

Here is one tree that has gefner and 97-1, This is the young 97-1 side of the tree, with small fruit last year.

We grow many things, however the main things (and my favorites) are lychees,(mauritious and brewster) Longan (kohala, edo, see chompoo, biew kiew and diamond river)carambola, (fwang tung, b-10 and shri kem) Sapodilla, (hasya and ox) jaboticaba.

Also have santol, abiu, mamey, white sapote, various citrus, araza, various guavas, canistel, passion fruit, etc.

Can you make out some of them in this old picture?

I'm not so sure I could handle hurricanes (earthquakes sneak up on you) but boy you sure can grow some beautiful fruit.

No problem BluePalm. crop will be all done in a week or so, till next year. pollinating a couple blossoms now, should have a couple fruit in January.

I live in northern CA and i want to try growing atemoya and see if I can do it.

Thats not a problem, just remember I am all the way in Jamaica, so you might have many other members that grow gefner that are alot closer to you than I am.

My name is Sev and I have been looking for the atemoya variety 97-1 for a long time. This variety is not for sale in any nursery that I know and I understand that it's original from Pine Island. I have already tried FruitScape nursery in Bookeelia, and they told me that they don't carry it anymore.

I have other varieties, but I would like to know if it is possible to buy you a couple of budwoods from your adult 97-1 tree, probably next year when budwoods are on shape for grafting, so I can graft them in my property in one of my trees. I live in Miami, FL, and I have a collection of tropical fruit trees.

We heard that this 97-1 atemoya is excellent, and also, productive. And it's one of the newest variety released from Pine Island.
