What about simple roman shades in a natural linen fabric? No frills, but helpful to bring down at night or when you want more privacy.

I would consider replacing the door b/c security issues.

i've just had the same problem. i solved this by deciding to purchase a very solid wooden "screen" door that appears to be an exterior door. it has divided lights like your door. Behind this "screen door" I've placed the solid wooden exterior door. This way I can have the exterior door open during the day and light floods in then at night I can close it for privacy and security. One good company is Vintage Doors. There are many companies out there who can make custom or semi-custom. You many even be able to alter your the door you have now for a "screen door". Good luck

I would suggest mini blinds because they provide both privacy and light.

There are some great window films out there that provide privacy, light and a style statement if you wish.
