ThatÂs very admirable! I donÂt have space for a garden the size you do but I informally follow the "Plant a Row for the Hungry (PAR)" program started by the Garden Writers Association. I checked with the Prince William County Extension office and they said there is no organized PAR group here but most local food banks accept fresh food so I grow extra tomatoes, peppers, and summer squash to donate to SERVE which has a Food Bank and Transitional housing. They very much welcome any garden produce I can provide so I get to expand my summer hobby while doing a little good.

I just heard about this through an article on Care2 and I think we're going to give it a try. We just started gardening last year and we had a lot of extra, so now I know where to take it. I'm thinking about offering some space on our property for my son's Cub Scout den to plant a garden and donate the produce, but I suspect I'll be committing myself to gardening an extra spot :)
