I may be overreacting but it seems like a lot of my composting worms have disappeared. I have a standard 18 gal. tote with holes in the lid and around the top sides. I used 60% coconut coir and 40% (processed) cow manure/humus. I have a whopping 150 worms in this bin. I bought 100 off the net and 50 locally. I went to feed them yesterday and I could only find about 10. I dug through the bin, trying not to disturb them too much to look for where they are hanging out. I found most of them near where I put the food last time. Those ones looked fat and sassy. I thought red wigglers are pile/surface dwellers or at least stay within about 3" from the surface. Why can't I find them? I don't want to shock them by rooting through the whole bin.
This is a second question. The worms I bought locally, from a bait shop, said on the tubs (two tubs of 25 worms) "Leaf Worms". They came from Canada. They are bigger than the Red Wigglers I bought off the internet but not as big as Canadian Crawlers, there was a tub of those and I looked to make sure. So I was wondering if any one knows what kind of warm they call a Leaf Worm in Canada. Since they were in the bait shop as fishing worms most people wouldn't care so much about the kind they are just how big they are.
