ij..I do not think newsprint is toxic. (If it is we should worry about handling it ourselves) Most newspapers use soy based inks for all their printing, these days. I shred all my newspaper/junk mail, (just not shiny..although I would guess it's okay, I just send it to recycle), and my extra grocery bags.

colored inks aren't a problem for worms or compost - the glossy stuff takes longer to break down but prolly no real problem either, the gloss is a clay I believe

none of it's killed my worms anyway, nor harmed my productive garden, and at our community garden where we have large worm bins for educational purposes, they get all the paper [preshredded even] from a local govt office area, including colored flyers, and they do fine
