It might be a good idea to think about why you have less worms than you did before. Worms usually increase in numbers.

yes, I did wonder that, but now the bin is all new bedding of a completely different type. I got lots of castings, but just didn't find many worms left. I used almost all coir in the first bin and maybe I waited too long to harvest, would that have killed them? It was never stinky or too dry or too wet. I think they increased at first but then over the winter in the basement they seemed to die out. Any ideas? This time I used mostly shredded paper with some dried leaves and some of the castings from the old bin.
