Mine, (L. sempervirens),'John Clayton','Alabama Crimson', 'Magnificum', have always taken a year or so to really get established. Now they are among my easiest and most vigorous vines. I, generally, do not fertilize, the first year, but make sure they never get waterlogged or dry out.
I have much more trouble with L. tragophylla and it's hybrids. I ascribe that to their demand for soil less acid than mine, but am unsure. At any rate, they are coming along also.

Well, that's encouraging! Thanks, bogturtle. Both vines are leafing out nicely and look happy, so hopefully they'll take off this year.
