The cross-cut shreds compact very quickly and take out the air circultaion. The long strip-cut are easy to fluff up and the worms can navigate, rest and lay cocoons easier.

If you already have a cross cut shredder I would make do with it. You could mix the paper with other things like food, leaves, coir, cardboard, straw ... whatever. Even if you do get lumps of paper here and there the worms will sort it out.

Yeah i just bought a new shredder and went all out on a cross cut shredder that shreds just about everything - I'll see if I got the receipt otherwise the worms will have to deal with it.

This is funny, I just asked the same question on a different thread But I do still have a question about if the inks in the paper are safe or make the soil more acidic?

In comparison to the paper the amount of ink is minuscule and won't make a difference to acidity of the bin. If you are concerned about the health of your worms, make sure that you only use organic inks, i.e. inks without harmful chemicals. My personal point of view is that worms can even handle radioactivity and should therefore also be able to handle a little bit of "harmful" chemicals.

I have a cross cut shredder, I run some cardboard through it every now and then to make fluffier bedding. I use about half cardboard and half paper.
