Little brown bats will live in bat houses and eat lots of mosquitoes unlike Mexican Free-tail bats that I have in my bat houses.

We put up a bat house two years ago and so far no takers. Oh, I'm wrong. A woodpecker pecked a nice hole in it. But just recently we've seen bats swirling around it as if checking it out. I can take several years for the little dears to move in.

I have bats in my bat house for the second year now. They moved in the following year after I put it up. I wish I could see them well enough at dusk to be able to identify what kind they are. Sometimes when I am working in the yard near the bat house in the daytime they chatter at me.
