I would certainly find out what was used to spray the weeds. If it was vinegar, they will probably come back after a pruning. Of course, you should call and complain. I know that gets to be political sometimes, but damage to personal property is not acceptable.

I will ask about what was sprayed for killing the weeds at the curb. However, I do not know for certain that the person spraying weeds also sprayed my roses. It just seems to be too much of a coincidence.

I will not mention the roses, because to do so would encourage this person to think that the incident upset me, and that would accomplish his purpose. In fact, I have learned in life that an emotional response to this type of attack is not good for my spirit or my health. It accomplishes nothing, including reversing the damage.

Political correctness is something I am not intimidated by. I don't hesitate to give my opinion when it matters, but do make a point of addressing the issue, rather than the person. I do not suffer from the need to be approved of by everyone.

I also believe that the person who vandalised my garden will be waiting for me to erupt. When I don't react, it will be a disappointment. If I had proof of identity, I would write a letter to our governing body.

I will do some pruning and hope for the best. If it seems that the damage is fatal, I'll just dig them up. Thanks for your comments

Well, if it was vinegar, the stuff will only kill those parts of the plant that it touched.

Beyond that, I wonder if you previously had problems with this particular person.

Has he, or anyone else, complained about your roses? Or other parts of your garden?

Or are the roses NOT in compliance with community guidelines? In some guidelines, only "tidy" stuff such as lawn, foundation shrubs, and a tree or two are permitted.

My landscaping is not an issue, as it conforms to all requirements. IF this person is responsible it is an 'anonymous' way to pay me back for blocking a recent political power play, which ended up in a courtroom trial. The person representing the 'power group' was treated to a humiliating experience by a sneering Judge.

Unfortunately, it seems that as world politics, and social values go down for the count, individuals who aspire to be 'important' now believe that honesty, moral values, and concern for your neighbours rights as well as your own are no longer necessary as long your dishonesty and secret manipulations do not become public knowledge. I see this attitude even among young children. It is one aspect of bullying.
