Poor baby! I'm so sorry to hear about your infection.

If it looks like a weed and there just isn't enough time to clean up all of the bed, at least get the flower before it goes to seed. Pick a corner and slowly advance twords the enemy. Give the boys vinegar in a spray bottle. if they miss you get new plants as a reward :).

Been there also. Our youngest two are 10 months and 3 weeks apart. Ouch!

Yes, concentrate on not letting them go to seed if there's no time for anything else. ESPECIALLY if you have thistle or anything truly horrible like that. It made a giant difference (I'm sure) that I was all over the weeds, chopping off their heads before they could wreak even more havoc. If they flower nicely, let the kids make you bouquets (that's one way to do it)! And remember, things like thistle will go to seed even after you've cut their heads off, so don't throw them out back -- throw them in the trash.

I actually have a TON of thistle (it's growing up IN BETWEEN my day lillies and shasta daisies.... can't round them up..... aaarrrgggghhh!).

Heading out the door to decapitate some weeds......

I can sympathize. I bought some topsoil last year and I've been pulling black locust seedlings ever since. This year I'm seeing nutsedge coming up that wasn't there last year.

In some areas, I smother weeds w/8-10 sheets of wet newspaper and toss some bark mulch on it. Otherwise the weeds will grow right through the mulch.

(of course the nutsedge grows thru the newspaper AND the bark mulch)
