Answering my own question... It may be an urtica (aka. nettle), but not sure if it's false nettle, stinging nettle, or what it is. I've always thought of stinging nettle as having hairy, thick, dark leaves and a shorter inflorescence. So if anyone can definitely ID this, let me know.

Pokeberry. Poisonous berries. Large, deep, fleshy tap root. Difficult to remove, once it gets big like that. Makes lots and lots of little pokeberry plants. Birds love the berries and will scatter them all over your yard in their poop...where they will make more pokeberry plants, which will make more berries, which the birds will eat...and so on and so on. You have to pull the plants when they are young and you can get all of the tap root out...before they set berries. The smaller plants are fairly easy to pull.
