Less Disease this year

I planted late this year (May 20), and have no current ripe tomatoes, including grape, in my 6b garden.

I am 100% organic, fertilizing only with aerated compost tea and using only cornmeal and baking soda as fungicide, and corn gluten as herbicide.

I am growing Black from Tula, Lucky Cross, Uncle Mark Bagby, Opalka, German Giant, and Italian Sweet, in addition to the hybrid grape.

In addition to tomatoes, I am growing Annas de Amerique melon, Moon and Stars watermelon, Paprika, Bell Pepper, Hanabero, Cayenne, and two types of squash.

This year I have less disease in my garden than in any previous year. The only difference in my practice was to plant later.

There was less rain in June than normal, which may have accounted for some of this, but there has been more in July--but the plants are much more well established.

Would planting later generate a healthier plant, and, if so, why?
