The tiles that look like hardwoods are very popular and will hold up well over time. When I can get the vinyl out of our kitchen (also on a farm so we understand) then this is the way we will probably go. Will always have a dog in the house.

Thanks guys for the post. Saw a click together waterproof vinyl that has a 50 year warrentees on it, and it made me think about it due to the fact that it will not destroy the old hardwood underneath that is original to the home. Has anyone used the snap and click vinyl floor strips that look like hardwood and do you have pets 50 plus pounds....our dogs standard poodles great animals groomed monthly but the nails are hard on the wood flooring in our current home with Bella birds eye maple floors....thanks Deborah and Cidel for your post ...

Those click together floors are the answer, can be applied over the old floor so its still there. Even reasonably easy to install and since they are installed as a piece for movement, no attachment to the old floor either.
