I think I would get rid of the green on the walls and go towards an off white or a white, get rid of the sofa, the rug, the painting and the curtains. Love the chairs in the Living Room, the Coffee Table is Nice, too. Replace the Drapes with White or almost white with some pattern, a fun rug, maybe a wool-jute, maybe a yellow? Same in the dining, love the table and chairs, but maybe replace seat cushions...maybe plain natural linen...

Definitely need lamps in the living Room and a new Chandelier in the Dining...like a drum with a wrought iron twist...

Lots of things can help with a "freshen up". One thing to do is to move the mirror. A mirror is only as good as its reflection. And right now yours is reflecting the ceiling! I would move it into the foyer, hung vertically over the table. It will then reflect the fireplace. Or try it on the wall opposite the window.

I see a tv stuck over in the corner, but don't see how the seating arrangement works for watching.

How far do you want to go? Nothing changes a room like a change in paint color. Right now you have a very bright green and very maroon drapes. If you love the art piece behind the sofa, move that to over the fireplace and use it as your color palette.

A soft gray/blue, replacing the green, would pick up slate on fireplace, and look nice with the soft taupes. Put sofa with back to window, and two leather chairs facing fireplace, with their backs to the entry hall. Tv on wall across from window. That should really open up the room. Inexpensive sisal rug with black border, adds texture and little pop of black here and there, in chairs, slate, frames is classic. Use a teal or warm mustard for brighter accents, in pillows, etc. Maybe a taupe linen or burlap ceiling to floor panels, with matchstick roman blinds, if privacy is an issue. Just moving the furniture can inspire your creative juices, have fun!

I know the corner is definitely not the right spot for my tv. I just don't know if the wall across the window is the right spot either as it is only a half wall. Below is a picture of a view from the window

Best thing I ever did was give the hubs a tv room and took it out of living room altogether. You'd be surprised how much we still use the living room. But if not an option, hang it on the wall where the painting is now, and make the FP the focal point of the room. I like your painting, if you still do, pull accent colors from that.

Do a switch. Center the rug in the room in front of the fireplace. Bring in the dining table and chairs in. Put the tv and chest on the wall where your clock is and place the couch against the wall where the opening of the kitchen is unless there is enough room to have the couch face the tv.. Coffe table moves with the couch. Get a new area rug for under the couch that is as colorful as your painting. Then find a color of paint that pulls it all together. Was thinking of a rug with reds, then a linen on the walls with new drapries and pillows. You didn't say if you were getting new furniture or just moving it around.
The chairs in front of the couch move to each side of the fireplace. recover the dining room chairs. Of course the lighting would have to chage rooms as well. Will need more tweeking if this is something you like.

I like the idea of switching dining and living room areas!

Your tv is smallest, so you need to sit fairly close to it for viewing. Putting it where the clock is, with sofa facing and close, with a comfy ottoman to act as a coffee table, would allow for great tv watching. I think there is room. Or, put tv in that corner at 45 degrees with back of sofa to kitchen opening. Then you can also watch while working in the kitchen.

Your dining table looks like it could use some more space, and putting it directing in front of window and fireplace would be striking! I would add a long sofa table (narrow) to the wall where the picture is hanging to serve as a buffet area to place food, drinks.

Replace the dining light fixture with one that hugs the ceiling, or with a fan/light. Lighting for new dining room could be thru various lamps: buffet, floor lamps placed around the room. And, nothing beats candle light on the table.
