Must you put the shutters on? I absolutely love the look of your house without them!

I do too feeny, BUT I would probably do stained wooden shutters instead with this style house instead of painted!

Hmm... I actually like the idea of adding shutters to that specific section of the house. As for color, I suggest either the same white already used on the trim, or the same color of the front door. Perhaps a very dark plum color (purple is the complimentary color to yellow)?

The only windows that shutters would even fit on are the ones on the left, and the beautiful tall cypresses (or whatever those evergreens are) provide enough visual punctuation between and around the windows, IMO.

Guess I tend to sometimes visually filter out landscaping, being that I'm an architect!

Didn't mean to disagree with you, Laurie. We actually posted simultaneously. I just love those cypresses so much and the perfect spacing between them and the windows that I don't want anything interfering. But I have the blinders of an avid gardener and just love the landscaping!

The stone caps overextend the windows. I like the shutters for those two particular windows to give them some more heft.. I'd go with a dark color to match your metal roof section (it looks black). I like the black shutter.

Thanks for the help everyone! There are actually four windows on the right side of the door that would also require shutters. Unfortunately, I do not have a full picture to upload though.

I'm for adding the shutters at the garage...they visually "widen" the space in between the arborvitae bushes and the vertical windows. And it looks as if it might be possible to repeat the shutters on the other stucco spaces of the facade?
The question however, was about color of the shutters. If your roof shingles are black, then black shutters may look more appropriate. If not, a dark gray would be better. It looks like there may be a blue/gray color in the stone...you could consider a dark shade of that hue!

I agree with T-Square Builders. Do you think a dark gray shutter would look better than black? Or would it just look like black that faded?

What style is this house? Is it a French Colonial?

I think either color would work!
