Do you actually need a second serving surface? If not, I'd look at hanging a beautiful mirror to reflect your space. This one is 42" x 42"--not sure if it would fit, but it will give you and idea of what might be nice.

Great idea maybe that is what instead of another piece of furniture.

I concur with cynthia....after you get drapery, a mirror or art may be all you need in that space. :)

It's the FARISTA mirror by Uttermost. It's a particular favourite of mine. Does 42" x 42" work? It's something that I can order for you if you are fairly local to the Greater Toronto area.

Draperies and a mirror would be a fantastic addition. Putting another piece of furniture would not be a good idea when entertaining. It would make it very tight in the room when walking around a seated table and serving.

I agree with Cynthia and m poulson on the draperies, If feel you can go either way sheers with dramatic side panels or just sheers alone mounted above the windows with a pewter rod. The mirror is a great idea. I could also see bring in some art pssibly a sculpture maybe on a column or a metallic painted pedastal table (silver or pewter).

I agree that a great window treatment would add to the windows. For the mirror, however, I would suggest centering it over your sideboard between the sconces and using the artwork (which may need to be larger) on the blank wall. Centering the mirror in the room would provide the most impact for it.

Re: ordering the mirror

With furniture and rugs and larger pieces, it's no problem for me to ship to clients in the US. However, this mirror would have to cross the border twice and that gets kind of complicated. I did a little search on Uttermost Connecticut and found this page http://www.mystore411.com/store/list_state/1420/Connecticut/Uttermost-Accent-Furniture-store-locations which lists lots of places that could order this for you if they don't have it in stock.

Check out the Uttermost website too, as they have plenty of beautiful mirrors on it and their photography is very good if you download a .jpg.

Thanks everyone now I am convinced that another piece of furniture is not the way to go. Love the drapery idea and the mirror. Now onto a search for fabric that would work for the curtains and a mirror.

I don't agree. I think you have ample space for another piece of furniture. And I think it would be an asset to the room with plenty of space for getting around the table when you are serving guests. And would also add for a serving space. The first table that you show would be great with the mirror hanging over it. Beautiful drapes...yes.

Before seeing the wall picture I was inclined to recommend making it a feature wall with stencils or a large decal. However I am in agreement that no more furniture is needed you want a walking clearance of no less than 18' around the perimeter of the table, with chairs slighly pulled out...but curtains and some nice photos-stacked, and a central mirror would look very nice. If your heart is set on furniture, then I would remove the existing sidebar and purchase matching set in smaller width dimensions.

That looks similar to my dining room, I have a grandfather clock in that space.

I agree with the mirror and no furniture. However, a tall case clock as longdong describes would be beautiful, too, instead of a mirror.

Love what you have done so far. I would like to see curtains and mirror over buffet, instead of picture. Move picture to blank wall add a half circle table or chest with curved simular shape.
