DCS grills are a lifetime grill. With that being said - if you don't take care of it, it won't last a lifetime. It sounds like this particular grill has not been taken care of. You'll probably spend a lot more money than its worth fixing it with the great possibility of something else going wrong with it right around the corner.

For a lower cost grill, check out the Traeger (it's not gas, but boy do I love it a whole lot more than any gas grill I've owned).

Back to the DCS - I'd stay away from it.

I think the guts run about $600 without replacing the burners, which don't look in bad shape. A new unit runs over $4k, so that's why I asked the question.

I agree with the guru--it may not be worth repairing. If you do decide to purchase a new one, you may want to look at Capital--the original engineers of DCS now own and operate Capital--same machine, better price!
