It's brand new - installed about a month ago.

The igniter might be wet.

Light the burner manually, and let it burn for 5-10 minutes on high. If you have a cast iron pan, put it over the burner for the last 5 miinutes, to 'reflect' more heat back to the igniter.

Let it cool, then test it again.

thanks! I'll try that and see how it goes. I did light the burner yesterday, but only left it on for a minute or so - I guess that wasn't long enough?

That didn't work. I even tripped the circuit breaker, hoping maybe that would reset things, and now none of the burners self-ignite! The oven light works and seems to heat up (the "heating" light goes on, anyway), so I know that there is electrical power to the range.

I guess it's time to call for service. I can't believe that the igniters really would die after a month!

try using a toothbrush around the ignitor area - sometimes spill overs dry & cake the area

NO, NO! Stop cleaning! I know this sounds counterintuitive but the problem - it is TOO clean. Strangely, every time my cleaning lady is here, one or two of my burners end up requiring a manual start. She just cleans the heck out of it and then the ignitor won't work until I light them. Once I start once it then it is fine. This has been our little dance for the past 2 years!

I watched a how to video on youtube and it showed me how to fix that problem
