What About the Jade Range?

There hasn't been much mention of the Jade range on this forum. I've been struggling with what range (all gas) to buy, and I hadn't even considered a Jade. But a 2009 chef survey revealed that the Jade range was the top pick (18% compared to 13% for the Wolf.) I wonder, though, if the chefs are referring to the professional versions of these ranges. In my search for a range, I feel like I have to give up reliability for more power. For example, the DCS range has burners of 17,500 BTUs (as compared to the 16K on the Wolf), but I question the quality and reliability of the DCS, especially since F&P has bought DCS. Could it be that the Jade range has the best of both worlds?

No, no, no. We did a buy-back of our Jade AG in 2007. It was in our opinion, one of the "prettiest" ranges on the mkt at the time, but it was a lousy range. Oven was never calibrated correctly, burner caps made the flame-spread too wide for all but our largest pots and pans, knobs looked like they were installed by a 4-5 yrr old (all off-kilter) and the cooling fan was VERY loud, and could not be turned off. Also, Jade residential product line was up for sale by Maytag (?) and there were no takers at the time we did our buy-back. One of our concerns was support and service down the road for our range.

FWIW, we bought a Wolf AG, and ended up getting caught-up in the burner issues at that time. Even with that, we are much happier with the Wolf than we would have been with the Jade.

I did learn about the Imperial AG range on this forum recently, and thought it sounded interesting. If we were in the market for a range today, I'd probably look into the Wolf again, the Imprerial, and possibly the Blue Star.

Absolutley - I'm not even sure Jade makes a range that is UL listed for home use. You'd have to build non-combustible materials around one to pass inspection and make it safe.

When these guys talk Jade versus Wolf they are not talking about the same Wolf cookers you see down at the local shop next to Viking stuff and SubZero fridges. That division (residential) was sold by WOLF to SubZero about 10 years ago.

Thank you both for your replies. I'll stay away from the Jade range. I may just go with the DCS and cross my fingers that I don't have any problems.

Jade is now part of Middleby and seems to be mostly involved in building up business around commercial and high end residential ranges only. The bad old days at Whirlpool, Maytag, and before that on its own are hopefully just quickly fading memories.

There are quite a few pretty heavy duty names in the group plus lots of outside competition so they will have to make a quality product from the get-go.

I have and am pleased with my DCS as others on this site are. I have the 30 inch with 3 17,500 and 2 12,500 BTU burners. Reversed i.e. 3 12,500 would have been fine with me. I love the duel stacked simmer on all burners and the infrared broiler. The top is easy to keep clean. 2 years and trouble free.

Old thread. A lot of opinion, and little fact. i have now owned my Jade Residential Range for some 15 years. Fan was never noisy,,and it stays on to cool down the range after cooking. Hardly a defect!

Going from Dual Fual to induction, amd also upsizing to 36 inch range…bought the Wolf. comparing the 15 year old Jade, and the new Wolf (residential) is cetainky eye opening. The oven interior metals, racks and even interior coatings are all inferior in the Wolf to the old Maytag/Jade range.
