I have the Pottery Barn Kensington "Extra Large Rectangle" (28.5" x 36") mirror. When I pivot it down (like this: / ), it measures 4 7/8" from the wall to the furthest out from the wall peak of the mirror.

Also, how often do you have the mirror pitvoted complete downwards?

Those are the same Kensingtons we purchased as well. I'm frankly somewhat disappointed by the quality of the hardware based on the price.

I installed an Access Lighting over vanity fixture over the Kensington mirrow. I am working on finishing a powder room where I will install the 3-light version of that fixture and the smaller Kensington mirror.

This is our main/guest bathroom so I can honestly say we almost never pivot the mirror at all. It's a large mirror so we rarely need to pivot it anyway. And because the bathroom is used mostly as a powder room and a place for us to take long baths, we do not use the mirror much anyway. Basically I angle the mirror just slightly down to give a good view of face and body and then leave it in place.

What part of the harware were you disappointed in? I am quite pleased with the mirror in general. I compared it with the Restoration Hardware pivoting mirrors which have more variety, but are significantly more expensive. So far I have been pleased with the mirror, but we aren't constantly adjusting it so maybe that makes a difference. Honestly, I picked it largely because I liked the look.

Yes, I don't foresee pivoting the mirrors much at all. I suspect it will be like your's, slightly angled down. Anything more than that, and you'll see too much I think.

The hardware quality that I'm not too impressed with are the "pivot arms/balls" that the mirrors connect to. The finish on it isn't "perfect" but rather has some imperfection "lines" on it. Like the item was 'dipped/coated' rather then finished by hand (if that makes sense). Then again, this we got the satin nickel finish.

We haven't put the mirrors up yet. Just dropped it off at the house and it is awaiting install by the contractor. (huge remodel, so this might take some time!)

One thing I am very excited about is radiant heating in the bathrooms!! WOOHOO! Even though we do live in the bay area and it doesn't get all that cold, nevertheless!

Ditto, I'm on the hunt for overhead vanity fixtures for our Extra-Large Kensingtons as well.

Help! I want to order the PB Kensington pivot mirrors, but noticed it said, "STUD MOUNT ONLY." What if my studs aren't the in the exact spot where the brackets will be mounted? There's no way that every person's house has studs exactly in the spot and right distance apart for mounting this mirror, so what's the workaround? Thank you!!

From what I have seen, most of of pivot mirrors had either light fixture above the mirror or on the sides.
Also most pivot mirrors is about 3" from the wall and the top will protrude more when tilt. You don't need to tilt it that much.
We switched our mirror to a RH oval pivot mirror and went with these lights since we did not want to re do the existing electrical boxes!

For the larger 40" I think it is mandatory you anchor to the studs. The smaller ones seems to use anchors.
