What exactly are you looking for? I bought a lot of stuff from these people. You can't buy direct from them but they make some NICE mouldings. Their website has a lot of pics and you can order some other info from them too. Check it out.

As the others have said, there's lots to consider before getting into specifics:
    - Inside or outside trim?
    - Stained or painted?
    - Wood or MDF?
    - If interior, you'll need base boards and window and door casings, as a minimum. If you can afford it and have the space, taller base boards and thicker, wider casings can add a lot to a room. (If wall switches have already been placed, they may influence the maximum width you want for your casings.) If you have higher ceilings, taller base boards are especially attractive.
    - Will you have crown moulding? If so, in which rooms? Will it be the same in all rooms or bigger in some than others? (Here's a good trick for getting big crown mouldings - - stack pieces. In the photo below, I stacked a piece of base, a piece of casing, and a piece of crown to achieve a 12" crown for a room with a 26' ceiling.)

    - Any curved trims (e.g., casings for round, oval, or arched windows)? These present a special challenge and are somewhat expensive. The arched window casing in the photo above is a product called "FlexTrim." Our builder said it's like installing spaghetti! Fortunately they make casings to match other manufacturers' wood and MDF casings so as soon as the arched part of the window ended, we continued with our regular MDF casings around the rest of the window.

    - Will you have other decorative trim (such a chair rail moulding, picture frame moulding, wainscot, etc.? If so where? Dining rooms are often prime candidates for these treatments.

    - What style? Craftman? Colonial? Traditional? Ornate? Plain?

If you have time this weekend, go to your local lumber store and check out their choices for trim. They often have little bits of free samples you can even take to your house to try out. They usually have brochures showing the various profiles that are available too.

    Good luck!

    arkansasgal,

What kind of trim did you decide on?

Well all of those questions are great questions. The good thing is we are building ourselves to we are not really limited as to what we can do. As far as style, we are not sure what all the different styles are. We have 13 arched openings in the house and one cased opening. We plan on doing chair rail in the dining room and study and possibly the younger son's bedroom. I want to do pretty nice molding in the foyer, dining room and living room because that is what you see when you first walk in our front doors. I dont know if this is good enough our wide enough so PLEASE correct me if I am off base. The crown in the LR, DR and foyer, I plan on doing 5 1/4'' crown and 4 1/4 everywhere else. There are 4 BR's, 3.5 baths, 1 study, LR, DR and a family room. We have two fireplaces, one see through fireplace between the MBA and MBR and one in the family room. For the base boards through out, I wanted to do 5 1/4''. There are 6 arched windows in the front of the house that I plan to do some really nice trim around but goodness I dont know what. The door casings/trim are 3 1/4. I want to put those caps or whatever they are called over all of the windows. I really just want to tell the trim sub exactly what I want so there is no guess work or trial and error. I guess I better look through tons of magazines tomorrow!!!

home_nw, your trim looks great, if I could achieve something like that throughout, I would be greatful...

To be a woman, I am the most non decorative, non creative person in HISTORY...

Oh yeah, my ceiling height for the foyer & DR is 13ft, LR 11ft and every other room throughout the house is 10ft.
