And we're finished!

Finally got that first shower last night, so I think we can safely say we are finished! Thanks for everyone's input, advice, and suggestions.

Difficult to photograph, but it's basically a "galley" style bathroom with the sinks on the right, the tub/shower on the left, and straight ahead are the WC, linen closet, and master closet doors.

There were several issues we were trying to resolve with this remodel.

1. Update the awful brass fixtures and perpetually mildewed seams.

2. Upgrade the tub to something I'd be willing to bathe in.

3. Enlarge the shower while keeping a tub in only 108" of space.

4. Increase privacy in the bathroom. There was no door into the bathroom from the bedroom, only an arched entry. The shower was right at the entry and it felt like you were showering in the bedroom. In fact, if someone were standing outside the master bedroom in the hall, or in the front entryway, it seemed like they could almost see you in the shower.

Our GC also happens to have an architecture degree and we feel like he listened to our needs/wants and was able to accomodate all of them. We ended up moving the wall that the existing shower was on into unused space in the bedroom about 14". We used about 4" of that to make a "double wall" that now houses a pocket door. The rest went toward a larger shower. Also by pushing out the wall, the entry into the bedroom is not on the same "plane" as the bathroom door, so it feels much more private.

You've seen it previously, but here is the "before"

Here is the after:

Sinks, counters, mirrors done 2 years ago:

Tub/shower just finished.

We solved the "where to hang two towels" dilemma by putting in a 36" door with a 30" towel bar.

Color enhanced shower floor:

My favorite: the hidden shampoo and soap. By adding a short wall for the glass door to hang from, we got hidden niches, so when you look at the shower, you only see pretty stuff!

Thank you all, I'm so grateful to have discovered this forum and all of the helpful people who are kind enough to reply to questions and issues.

What you have done is very beautiful. LOVE all the hidden cubbies for your shampoo, soaps, etc. They are like drawers and potato chips. You can never have too many, LOL.
I really like your shower floor tile and wall tile. Mind sharing what you used?
    Again, nice job.

Love the transformation! Beautiful finishes. Really love the niche wall. Would really appreciate it if you could share the size of the wall and the size of the individual niches. Congratulations!

    Thanks everyone!
We searched and searched for tile. We knew we wanted honed and filled travertine in a medium color. You'd be amazed how hard that is to find, or maybe we are just picky. We went from discount/close out tile places, to high end tile places. While price was a consideration, materials weren't the biggest expense in the grand scheme of things. We just wanted what we wanted.

The shower wall stone is from World of Tile, called Antioch, we paid $3.49 sf and used 16x16 tiles (cut to 8x8 for the diagonals). We were very happy with the low amount and color of the fill. We were able to pull some of the "lesser-looking" tiles out and return what we didn't use.
The shower floor is Emperador (color enhanced) in 2x2 mosaic. We used Tobacco Brown grout on the shower floor.

At the last minute we decided that using the same color on the bathroom floor would be too much, so we went on an emergency hunt for a different floor stone in a lighter color. Amazingly enough, we found it at our local Lowe's. It's called Tuscany Travertine. It came in 18x18, we cut it down to 16x16 because our bathroom floor was just too small for the bigger tile.

The niche wall is 12" and goes all the way up to the 10' ceiling. Two of the niches are about 6"x12" and the soap niche is 6"x6". They were built around the supports needed for the glass and it's amazing how small they get when you add tile. He made the bottom tiles in the niches stick out an inch or so to give us additional space. We also had them put a shelf in the corner up high.

Hope this answers everyone's questions in WAY too much detail!

Well it's just beautiful! Good job! What colors will you use for accent? I have just one request...I wish the pictures were larger so we could see the details better :) Other than that, KUDOS to a job well done!

monicakm, accent colors is the next big challenge. Our entire house seems to be black, brown, metallics, and red. It is starting to seem rather dark. I'm thinking of lightening up the bedroom and coordinating with the bathroom on an accent color, but can't decide what color. Taking suggestions . . . .

    Wow it really is beautiful!!!!
I love that bling-y mosaic accent! Fabulous job! That shower niche is genius!

Your niche wall is an inspiration for a similar wall I am now considering for our 36" x 54" shower. Love the coordination of all the materials.

Accent color? Hmmm, how about cream?

Looks gorgeous! what color of paint did you use?
