Soap Dispenser in half bath - pics please?

I am planning a new vanity with granite counter top. I am debating about having a soap dispenser built in. Does anyone have one in their powder room? Is this a silly idea? I have three young children who are constantly washing their hands, and it seems this would be an easier (and neater) thing for them to operate.

If I installed one, I would use a single hole faucet so that I wouldn't have so much going on on the counter top.

Any advice, pictures would be much appreciated!

The soap dispenser is one of my very favorite things -- thanks to suggestions on this forum. No more messy, drippy bottles that need refilling or replacing every two weeks! Add a "Never-MT" and it's the best thing ever. Here's the one we're using now; I have another one going in the master bath in a couple of weeks.

I'm about to add a third soap dispenser in my house. I wouldn't have a kitchen or bathroom without one!

I am wondering about this as well. I have a Spanish-style house and am going for a somewhat old Spanish/Mexican look. I bought a carved wooden dresser and retrofitted it into a vanity. It is only 18" deep, so I plan to put in a small sink. I will use a single handle faucet somewhat like sjt2900, but in oil rubbed bronze. I can't mount it behind the sink, so I will mount it at " 2:00 " or so. I have three young children also and I am debating putting in a soap dispenser, too, at "10:00 " . Obviously, the pro is clean/easy/no scummy soap dish. The con is potentially detracting from the look that I am going for. What do you think?

astridh--I would go for it. Bar soap at a sink always seems to look yucky to me. The kids might actually enjoy using the dispenser. Make sure to get a Never MT, they're fabulous!

The best idea DW ever had.

We are redoing the kids bath. The granite vanity top we are looking at is one from depot that has the 8 " spread. The faucet I really want is the Delta Victorian single hole, so I was thinking about putting in a soap dispenser and just capping the other hole. Does Delta carry just the soap dispensers alone? They only ones they had at Lowes were too modern to go with the victorian.

    Toodles,

A little off topic, but I put two built-in soap dispensers at the sink in my kitchen remodel - one for detergent and one for hand soap.

I've enjoyed having both, especially since I'm a big believer in hand washing before/during cooking prep.

Is there a place that sell these that aren't an arm and a leg. They are almost as much as the faucets, well not really, :) but close!

I was able to find mine (Price Pfister brand - from the same family as my faucets) on-line for about $30. I googled and was able to fine it.

    What is a Never MT?

A handy little tube/valve that connects to your soap dispenser from underneath and goes directly into a LARGE refill-bottle of soap that sits under the sink. No more filling of soap bottles.

I've found that it works better if the soap is slightly diluted with water, however.

Here is a link that might be useful: Never MT

    Cindy,
I really like the placement of your faucet and soap dispenser. What brand is your faucet? Its rare to see a double handled faucet like that with a single hole cutout. Was it easy to install?

Very nice color scheme. I would like to see a whole view of the floor and tub area (if you dont mind).

    Hi Bluepoppy,

thanks for the compliments; I appreciate it. I haven't posted my "finished" pictures, because, well, I'm not finished. I have some painting left to do and want it to look beautiful when I announce it to the world. ;-)

The faucet and dispenser are Kohler in polished nickel; faucet is Bancroft line. It is an unusual faucet, but worked well in our situation.

This bath is a very narrow L-shape and we had just 19" for the vanity and countertop. We ordered a custom cherry vanity and granite top, and put in the smallest sink we could find. To make everything fit, I chose the single-post faucet and off-set it. It works really well -- four of us are using this bathroom now while the master is being remodeled, and we're all pleased with the faucet/sink layout.

Here's a photo I had handy that shows a bit more of the room, from the hallway. The walls are a very pale sagey green. To the left of the tub is a linen closet; hopefully to be painted this weekend.

Cindy SoCal, what sink is it? I am looking for a small one, myself.

We found it at HD Supply; it's a no-brand-name sink from China, designed to fit with their pre-fab 19" granite countertops. I think it is 15-1/2 x 11-1/2". What I liked is that it is two inches smaller in depth than the standard sink, but only one inch in width. I wouldn't want to wash my hair or a sweater in it, but it is just fine for everything else.

I think Amer. Standard makes one that is 12-1/8 x 15-1/8 and is a little rounder.

    I absolutely love this idea.

However, the space in my powder room has a very small area for the vanity. I could potentially have a smaller vanity in there, but I was thinking that it would look better to have a pedestal sink instead- keep the room uncluttered.

Does anyone know if there is a pedestal sink with enough room to put in the soap dispenser?

I'd hate to think that is my deciding choice, but it very well might be! :)

    Thanks!

Great idea! Wish I had heard of this before ordering my vanity tops!

Cindy - I plan on getting that exact faucet in polished chrome for my new vanity top. Which soap dispenser did you get to match it? How do you like having the faucet on the side?

Hi cleblanc - the soap dispenser is Kohler K-1894.

We love the offset faucet. Our previous vanity had a very weird layout with a traditional 1950's faucet on the left at 9 o'clock, so we were used to having it on the left. Offsetting the faucet and dispenser allowed us to have an undermount sink in a 19" top; there just wasn't room to put one in the back.

We're happy with the faucet. Hope you like it too!
