Thermador range - convert grill to griddle?

How hard is it to change the grill element to a griddle? Can you simply buy an official Thermador griddle and place it in the center of the cooktop instead of the grill? Can you buy a common or garden variety griddle pan and put that in the center instead of the grill, or on top of the grill? Or are the heating elements too different?

I'd try it out myself if I had a griddle pan and it wasn't 110 degrees here.

Anyone familiar with the maple chopping block offered by Thermador and is it really worth $99?

This stage of playing around with a new range reminds me of buying accessories for Barbie dolls....

I was in the appliance store yesterday and saw the Thermador range. It looked sooooooooooooo industrial. Just huge and impressive. Most people here recommend that you get a two burner grill/griddle pan or one burner grill and griddle skillets, because the cleanup with the installed units is way too much.

Saw them yesterday in a store where they
cook on a daily basis. THe oven there was 2 years old
and the grill and griddle looked almost brand new.
They are both completely "sealed" so no grease or food escapes.
I'm going with the griddle, since in California we
    can grill all year round.

I would be cautious with such observations. We went to the Gaggenau distributors to see their ovens. The steam oven had its racks missing. I asked why, they said they had sent them out to be realy cleaned! So you never know if they replace them, pressure wash them, or whatever method to make sure they show well.

BTW, we are still getting the steam oven as we don't care if it gets dirty....

I can't imagine how they would do something special
to clean the griddle, especially since the
griddle is not removable, except for the one piece
that you can move the cooking oils and food particles into. It's a 48" working oven
for cooking demos. That oven hasn't moved since it's
been there. And even if they used a special cleaner,
I'm sure they'd share the cleaning method, since it
would only be a selling point.

I bought that griddle on my previous thermador range
with 6 burners, and used it above 2 burners.
However, I didn't like it very much. I don't think
it is even made by thermador. It's like a calphalon
or some nonstick pan that is basically ok because
it does fit over the 2 burners. But I didn't like
that it was a bit rounded with grooves around it,
so the workable surface area is actually not all that
large. Better than nothing, but basically it's
the same kind of substitute as just buying
a grill pan to use as a grill.

Could you use the Made In Grill pan in it?
