I've used Takla Legends. The taupe, chocolate and chestnut look quite nice. There's another caramel color that looked okay. The other colors looked a little hokey. One was a dark charcoal, one a pickled white, etc. Sort of unnatural colors that might look okay on real wood, but to my eye the faux wood finishes just didn't translate to faux wood tile.

This room had the Takla on the floor, a multi-piece ceramic base, a running bond wainscot field, and a multi-piece ceramic cap. Looked oh so disgustingly tasty.

The original plan was for all ceramic. Then the designer saw a house I had done a few years earlier and she changed the design to copy a pretty tricky wood raised panel wainscot I did just for that house. I refused as I had designed that one-off wainscot for the other family.

Then it went to wood base and cap with ceramic field.

Then the designer got fired and I reverted back to the original all-ceramic design.

There was one other wood-grained ceramic that I came close to using but didn't. It had a nice aged weathered oak look to it. I don't recall the brand, but lemme see if I can google something...

It might have been Torino Antique Gray. Not positive. I remember it looking better than the photos I found online.

As to "would it look classic or dull", it really depends on the scale and colors chosen. In the wainscot I described in the beginning, "standard" off the shelf subway looked a little cliche and typical, so I cut my field tiles from larger tiles using the Golden Rectangle dimensions as the basis for the size. They were then installed in a running bond.
