Hi, Bright! Yes, you can do that quite simpley, I have done this before when I wanted something temporary, got the idea from the Christopher Lowe show. Just take your glue gun and glue gun glue and attach things that way. When you want to remove them, just take a blow dryer on low heat, point it to the glued area, the heat will soften the glue gun glue and they will peel away from each other, then just "roll off"/ scrape with your finger nails the excess soft glue left on your dishes.

Bright, that's what I do too, easier to store them separately I think.
I just used my pedestal cake plate, then a clear glass candle holder, then a slightly smaller flat glass dish, another candle holder, another slightly smaller plate, then the sundae cup on top of that.
I just used some green florist clay rolled in a long rope and laid on the rim of the candle holders. It keeps them from sliding, but can be pulled apart easily. The hot glue would probably hold even better.
