GE Cafe Dual Fuel Range & Backsplash & Depth

Hi folks -- Seriously considering the GE Cafe Dual Fuel range for a kitchen reno I'm doing. I have two questions.

1) I'm going to have a 4" or so soapstone backsplash along the run of cabinets that will include the range. I'd like the backsplash to also run behind the range, so that it's consistent across the whole run. Is this feasible? I asked my local appliance guy and he said "no" but I don't really understand why not. If you could do a tile backsplash behind the range, why not the soapstone?

2) This is possibly a related question ... How deep is the range exclusive of the door? I understand that the side panels are black, and I'd like them to be hidden by my cabinets with only the stainless door projecting beyond. I can't find the actual depth dimension anywhere. (GE spec page says overall depth of 26 1/4, but that must be including the door and handle, right?)

If that dimension is slightly more than 24", I'd think I could ask the cabinet maker to plan to set the cabinets slightly away from the wall, and mask the gap at the wall with counter top? Does anyone know if there's a reason not to do this?

And I'm thinking q2 may be related to q1 because maybe the backsplash "pushes" out the range, which is why some people have trouble with the black showing and others don't?

I can only comment on #1. My designer said that I could not use the GE Cafe either. I think because it went all the way to the wall and would not allow for a strip of countertop behind and a backsplash. I was doing SS too with a 2 inch backsplash. I went with the dual fuel Bosch.

I've had the GE Cafe Duel Fuel range since the end of May. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to have a backsplash behind your range. Mine does not go all the way back to the wall. I wish it did, but with the gas connection the piping juts out from the wall so that my range can't go back all the way. My range actually juts out at least 2.5" from the wall. Unfortunately, that causes the sides of my range to show (about 2"). When I asked the installer (from the gas company), he said that the pipe had to be that way. I didn't have time to question him - we were in a time crunch and literally only had two hours to get the thing installed. When I eventually renovate my kitchen though, I'm going to ask about that.

That said, the depth of the range, not including the door, is 24" and with the door, it is 26". I don't have a backsplash currently behind my range, but there is one above my counter. It's only about 1/2" deep so even if my range were pushed all the way back, that particular backsplash shouldn't have interfered if it went all the way across. The only thing I do notice is that the fan from the oven is across the back of the stove and rises about 1.5" from the top of the stove. It's flush with the back of the range though, so it still shouldn't impede the range from being against the wall. Am I making sense?

However, I am no expert so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I just thought I'd provide you with the actual measurements. Hope that helps! BTW, so far, I love the range!

I don't think the issue is soapstone vs. tile per se - the issue is that the 4" backsplash is thicker than the tiles that people usually use for the backsplash - the thicker backsplash will make your range stick out farther.

I have the GE Cafe dual fuel, no backsplash installed yet. I just did a measurement, and the range is exactly 1" away from the drywall.
