I think if you're only doing lighting above the mirrors (vs. sconces or something), just over the mirrors is fine. You should have other ceiling lights though ... a lot of people like recessed lights near the vanity, although it's not my personal preference.

I'm interested in answers - not seeing many, though. I think it depends on the size of the room and how far apart the lights will be. When I remodel the bath, I will replace the single mirror with 2 (one over each sink) and the single light fixture with 3 (one over each sink and one between the sinks).

My bathroom is about 8x9 and the only real light is the one 48" ugly makeup mirror-type contractor-installed fixure over the double sink vanity (68"). There is a nasty light over the garden tub, too. I never use the tub or its light and the other 48" light fixture puts off plenty of light. The replacement fixture I'm buying for over the vanity until I do the bath remodel will provide as least as much light (watts and lumens) as the existing 48" one. This is a temporary fix because I just can't stand that ugly fixture and I'm currently remodeling the entire first floor so the bath has to wait.

Check out houzz.com - they have many pictures of long vanities/2 bowls and wall space in-between. You could put a nice picture in that space, a tile mural, trim it with woodwork - like a framed area, a small hand towel holder, etc.

I think that will look great also. So cool that the vanity on overstock has good reviews. And you don't have to pick out a countertop or sinks. Great job.

You could either put picture frames or some metal wall murals. Or, place some wooden tower to contain your toiletries etc. Good luck!
