My problem with black is that it shows the dust and dog hair. This is really a matter of taste and I would say to go with what YOU want. All my doors are natural but you certainly don't have to stick to any "norms."

I saw a design show once where they painted all the interior trim and doors black. It was very masculine looking. While it was interesting, I think the black doors caused a lot of visual confusion. Those large, dark spaces really attracted your eye and became focal points. Can you put a picture of your room in photoshop or similar program and "paint" the doors black to get an idea how it would look?

I think for the whole house it would be too stark. How about a really dark stain? I think that would look rich. I did see this eggplant colored one on Trustile's site that looked nice. But again, maybe not for the entire house. Just my .02

I never thought I'd like purple doors....but that eggplant door is beautiful!!

I personally love black doors, in the right house. :o) I have a magazine article somewhere with black doors in their house.... it was an old house and the doors were scuffed and such that they just repainted with black. There was something special about the paint, so that it would stand up to "abuse" better. I can't remember if it was something like enamel paint or just what. But it was shiny and gorgeous. Yummy looking!

Hey Lindy~ that eggplant door is indeed gorgeous. Wow! (fyi... that's the style of doors we chose for our new house... with the curved arch at the top). Thanks for sharing. :O)
