They all take longer (we have a Miele Optima)--I think because they use less water I've heard.

This is pretty much about right. It will take longer the cooler your water is and if you select hotter wash cycles or the "sani" rinse at the end. In this it has to heat up to 160 so that can take longer.

Just turn it on and walk away. In the morning it will be finished. They are all this way--not just KitchenAid.

Are your dishes clean?? If yes then that is the most important thing-right?!

While asking around, I guess my situation isn't all that unusual. (Waiting for clean dishes will take some getting used to.)

I have emailed Kitchenaid asking exactly how long a Normal Wash should take. I hope to hear back from them soon.

Your manual should give you the approximate times of the cycles BUT if you add options like sani-wash it adds time. The one thing I find annoying about mine is that it shows time remaining but if I add options it doesn't show additional time - when I use sani-rinse and the DW hits 46 minutes remaining, it sits at 46 for about 1/2 hour and then continues the countdown. Once it got to 45, I know I really have 45 minutes left :-)

Maddielee: I have the same dishwasher as you -- the cycle time sounds about right. Do you run the hot water from the tap first? That should shorten the cycle a tiny bit. But I agree with the others -- longer cycle times are typical in the newer dishwashers. I put mine on after dinner and don't even use the heat dry. My dishes are sparkling clean and dry in the morning, so I'm a happy camper. (It's my first dw in 13 years, so forgive me for my excitement...right now I think it's the best thing on the planet) :-)

I just checked the "consumer reference guide" (p. 7), and it gives "minimum" cycle times:

95 mins for heavy duty
77 mins for normal
72 mins for light/china
10 mins for rinse only.

The manual says cycle times will be longer depending on the temp of the water entering the dw. So running the hot water at the tap first should shorten the cycles some. HTH.
