I need step-by-step instructions for taking my trash compactor apart for cleaning.

Although I have made it very clear to all family that food does not go into the compactor, and all glass should be well-wrapped in newspaper before disposal, well, you can guess the rest.

After an impromptu gathering this weekend, DH (who never helps clean up---for good reason) threw several pop bottles into the compactor and topped it off with the substantial remains of hot shrimp dip out of the crock pot. Then he turned it on...

Not only did we end up with shards of glass and stinky dip in the bin itself (he had not secured the bag down around the top of the bin), the glass stuck to the dip on the ram. I can also see glass behind the bin when I pull it all the way out.

Obviously, I need to remove the bin to safely scoot in to see the ram to clean it, and clean behind the unit. I have no idea how to do this. If someone could walk me through this process, I would very much appreciate it.

I'm sure this will be funny in a few years, but it isn't right now...
