Need help on selecting the layout!

15 years ago

My DH finally agreed to update our master bathroom. We got 2 plans and could not decide which to go.

The space is small: 7.5 long and 8.5 wide. Now it only has a shower. I am a bath person and my husband is a shower guy. 2 little kids. Although there's a bigger hall bath, somehow they like to do blah-blah in Daddy/Mommy's bathroom. :)

Plan A:

What I worry about/dislike:

1. The shower plumbing's on outside wall (we live in NJ, and it's freezing today :)). One contractor insisted to build a high wall for shower plumbing at position A, where I planned to have a glass wall;

2. One vanity;

3. Too busy in such a small space?

4. Small bathtub space. I wished for a basic tub with deck, but one contractor said it's too small for a deck. He suggested to build a low wall at the end of the tub, which I am not sure I would like it;

5. no storage.

A twist idea is to switch the position of shower and vanity, so the shower has a internal wall for plumbing. But contractors said it would make doorway too busy and not looking nice.

Plan B:

Pros:

1. bigger tub;

2. double vanity;

3. storage space;

4. seems not very busy;

Worry about:

1. How to build a nice looking shower surrounding at position B? I wonder if a wall would look jam and dark.

Although I like to have separate shower and tub, I wonder if the Plan B's more functional and realistic.

Any help would be highly appreciated.
