Buy a 36" gas cooktop and a real overhead island vent and have a granite fabricator recut the top. The granite part won't be a bit deal at all. The venting might be a bigger deal, but it'll totally be worth it.

My house is already built. I don't think I could put in an overhead vent without some extensive construction. The kitchen is in the front of the house, and we also have a porch there. I'm not sure we could manage the venting.

I've just been going through almost the same issue! I had a 30" electric Jennair cooktop with a downdraft. The only gas cooktop that seems to fit without some major changes was a gas Jennair. But from researching I really didn't think this was the cooktop I wanted and also as the previous poster said, overhead vent seems like a much better option. My venting is quite complicated, but the estimate I got is for $500, which is worth it to me. Installation is scheduled for 10/24. It may be worth considering at least getting an estimate for an overhead vent and installing a 36" cooktop.

Ramya - FWIW we had to go with a 36” and hire someone to cut our countertop to fit it (ugh). apparently it’s not the big of deal to cut into a countertop but still another expense.

was it expensive??? that's my current situation.
