It's not actally that difficult - just stick your arm in and wipe - it's quite easy to do, I just did it yesterday. But obviously, prevention is the best thing. I have always covered my food items in any microwave.

It really isn't hard -- just reach in and wipe, but I do cover food that is ikely to splatter so I can avoid it as much as possible. REally not hard on eiather account. This is akin to a salesman telling you not to buy a Euro DW because you'll have to clean a yucky trap. Maybe once in a blue moon, isn't that hard or yucky and the benefits outweigh the occassional task.

but how do you >see< that the top is dirty? Get down on your hands and knees?

I’m 5’8” …and owned a microwave drawer for close to 10 years now. I don’ t feel awkward leaning down to clean the ceiling of microwave. We do cover food while cooking…but I would do the same with any microwave, including counter or built-in.. I’ll take the clean lines on my counter and uncluttered look of a microwave drawer everytime!
