Very cute shoes! But that is WAY off topic!

You might think about introducing some color into the room. If you continue down the grey-blue path you might end up with a large grey box, boring and cold. If the carpet has to stay, then yes, think about an area rug. Both Ballard Designs and Home Decorators have online websites and several very colorful and fairly inexpensive area rugs. They would be great for this purpose.

While traditionally a female oriented color, you may want to think about a yellow, not too bright, like Benjamin Moore's Yellow Clover 375 or Traditional Yellow 170 or even Hawthorne Yellow HC-4, a favorite standby yellow that we use often. Yellow and grey together is a highly sophisticated palette combination. From there you can add a mossy green for accent and begin to feel as if you have introduced the outdoors.

You might also think about painting that wood work white, although most husbands with which I've worked for the past 20 years physically recoil when that suggestion is offered. Just a thought.

If the carpet has to stay, and the trim and doors can all be brought to the same dark Mahogany Color, I would look into very light grays or blues, or sages, but just a hint. If possible, I would either panel or paint the bottom part dark mahogany as well.

Install roman shades or bamboo shades on the windows.

A nice Desk with a comfy chair and a bookshelf, file storage..maybe a small sofa or chaise
