Thermador all gas range - HELP!!

Trying to remain calm....having relatives come from overseas for the holidays this weekend....and brunch for 35 on Sunday....

and last night my new (not yet 3 months old) Thermador 36" 6 burner all gas range started flipping out. We came home and the preheat light was flashing once every 15-20 seconds. This was with the dial OFF and the temp dial turned to OFF. The oven was NOT preheating and was cold. The oven has not been used in a week. When we tried to turn it off, then on again, reset the circuit breaker, do anything to correct the problem we only managed to get the preheat light to flash 3 times followed immediately by the heating light flashing 2 times...then a pause...and cycle starts again. The temperature was on 350, the dial was set to BAKE. Turning the temp down to zero does not change the cycle.

Now, if the temp is set at 350 and dial turned ON, it will begin functioning normally, but will then cut off.

We are waiting on the Thermador rep to call us back but I was hoping to find someone else that has experienced this. I really love this range and need for it to be working this weekend!

Thoughts, anyone?? Thank you so much in advance....

You might try un-plugging, and then plugging back in.

I was hoping that by flipping the circuit breaker off and on I would be doing the same thing because moving the range is very difficult....is it different? Thanks so much for your help!

flipping the breaker is essentially the same thing. You can try keeping the breaker off for an hour or more and see what happens. I wish you the best of luck. Good thing it is under warranty, bad thing is you have a large gathering. Not to mention having a gorgeous expensive range like that out of commission is a little embarrassing.

Any mention of this in any of the manuals?

    Keep us posted.

Thanks guys - there is nothing about this in the manuals. Thermador support called back saying that they are confident that it is a faulty relay board (? whatever that is) and are having a replacement shipped overnight which will be installed Friday morning so that we will be fully functional for the weekend.

    ....holding my breath......

I don't want to bum you out, but Thermador replaced my "board" 4 times, and then they replaced the entire oven, and then they gave me a refund because they sell lemons.

Their customer service and technicians (who generally don't work for Thermador and will do nothing but call the Thermador tech help desk for answers) will likely continue to tell you "it's the board" and replace it. You'll eventually be out of warranty with an appliance that is giving you the same problems that it always has, but with a sizeable service bill.

Here are some other opinions on the adventure that you're about to embark on: http://www.danabushman.com/here_is_the_house/2007/04/letter_to_consu/comments/

Wow Tommy sounds like Thermador is as bad as Viking!!

I'm planning on replacing my oven ignitors one last time but I'm reluctant to purchase a new range because they all sound pretty bad. At least the top burners work, it's just the oven that's the problem. I'll cross Thermador off my list. I'm going to carefully monitor the American Range threads, that would be my choice right now.

Tommy275, I have a question for you!! How do I get a hold of you?! Thermador has been horrible and I could really use your advise

    Hi crisinaladin,

This is a very old thread however we have been having problems with our Thermador Pro Grand prg366. Its a year and half old and has been visited by BSH techs more than 6 times now for a Check Cooling Fan error. They have replaced all of the boards and the fans as well and the unit still gives an error when operating the oven over 350. It is sporadic too. Finally Thermador is sending us a new range which actually arrives tomorrow...I wanted a refund but Im sure this range will be a lemon too. 7200 dollars should buy a worthy range but it doesn't.
