Dear friends are moving there....anyone have any helpful info I can share? Favorite local restaurants, fun things to do, good school districts, good grocery stores, etc?

Thanks a bunch!

Take a look at Yelp. I just discovered Yelp this past summer. It feels like it leans toward a younger crowd, but there are tons of reviews for all kinds of businesses.

Here is a link that might be useful: Yelp

I love Amarillo. Live about 40 miles to the northeast. The Texas Panhandle is a unique place, very flat, can see for miles on the plains. The weather is very good except for the wind. This spring will not be too great unless we get more snow or rain. It has been very dry.

Most people with children like living in the western part in Randall County. Lots of nice homes and good schools. Have several friends in the southwestern area. This would be south of I-40.

Palo Duro Canyon is just a few miles from Amarillo close to Canyon, Texas. There is a university there. My oldest daughter graduated there. They will have to see the play "Texas" next summer in the Canyon. It is spectacular and draws people from all over the world.

We go to Amarillo for our doctors and hospitals. Do all of our shopping there, too.

Lots of good restaurants along I-40 close to the Mall. We like Applebees on Soncy. Great barbeque place in the Mall. Very good shopping on Soncy Street.

There is the famous 6th Street that is mostly antiques and lots of quaint stores. Route 66 is right there with tons of history.

Amarillo is not an extremely large town. Very easy to drive in. After we have been to Dallas or Houston, I am so relieved to be back where the traffic is not so wild.

People are very friendly and helpful.

Someone did an article on the Texas Panhandle and you could tell they were not impressed with the landscape as they suggested that God rested on the day he did the Panhandle. I love it myself and can see the beauty of the canyons, flat plains and the absolutely gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.

Hope this helps and I wish them the very best. What state are they living in now?

    I welcome them to Texas.

Now I have the song Amarillo by Mornin' stuck in my head. Good song, tho! ;)
(Sounds like a nice place, texaspanhandler.)

Jason Aldean has the song "Amarillo Sky" out for a couple of years now. My favorite though is "Amarillo by Mornin'".

Is Buns Over Texas still there??

Yes, it is but has moved over a street to 34th. We haven't been to the new one, but loved the old one. I ordered a hot dog one time and this booming voice came on saying "Dora, your dog is barkin'. Everyone laughed. Guess it was the first hot dog they had sold that day. Can't remember what they say when your hamburger is ready.
