Craft fair report Sat. Nov 18

GREAT TURNOUT !! There were 147 crafters and there had to be at least 2,000 people go through. I did excellent for such a small space ( I made $650 !!!) I have never seen a craft fair with such variety. All morning I sat there twiddling my thumbs while everyone around me was selling like crazy. One lady had those marble coasters that soak up water . The other lady next to me had the most awesome candles .... it deserves a whole post of it's own to describe them - JUST gorgeous. The lady across from me sold out of wooden thing-a-ma-jigs. Simple black lanterns cut out of plywood - on a stick and a base - about 3 ft. high - decorated with pine garland and lights. Another thing I saw ALOT of people walking around with was ....

(Now you have to bear with me - I'm not a gardener) they looked like the round things that you cover rosebushes over in winter . They weren't styrofoam - they looked like some kind of crinkled cardboard (like egg carton material ) . They were upside down -the opening was at the top .... they had a simple snowman face painted on them - a little cloth scarf and the maker put rope handles on - and people were using them as shopping bags. (I'm terrible at describing stuff ) Boy - just about everybody had one !!

Well-that's the report .... I'm still trying to come down off of cloud 9 with all my earnings ! LOL

Good for you on doing so well at your show. I've seen the plywood lanterns and taller lamp posts decorated with the greenery and all and they are very nice.

Congrulations. We too had another craft fair that I think most of the vendors did pretty good at. Several featured homemade cards/scrap book stuff (hot item this area), homemade candy/jelly/candles. Purses, sold good, cute things to hang on tree--good variety-- hand carved wood plaques, jewelery, another hot item in this area is machine embroried dish towels. These sold for about $20.00 for 7. This was a very local, but very popular yearly event.

You did really good...

I sold for about 22 years...When I first started craft shows were new and we had a really popular one started at our kids school...people waited for it...I five or six hundred at it...but as the years went by I'd think I had an excellent day if I made 250.00 at one...

I go to them again if I thought I could make that much...you really have to have something different anymore...or people are not going to buy it....If you can find the same thing on every other table, yours has to be the best made and the cheapest price in order to sell...I decided I wasn't going to give my stuff away....and I was tired of carrying it in and out so I quit.

Sometimes I really miss it.

The snowman things sound neat - I bet it was a big "peat pot" - would love to see a picture of those.

I agree with Patti. We decided that we couldn't
compete with imported goods. We did woodcraft for about
15 years.

I'm curious about this "rose cover" thing - Not sure what you cover roses with. How big was it? What kind of material was it made of?

I saw them here in MN. A lady that holds craft sales in her home has them. Yes, it is a giant peat pot. Her's weren't turned upside down though. Makes more sense ot use it upright as you can store things inside it.

Congratulations on your sales! Way to go! Thanks for telling us about some of the hot items too. Wish I had a better imagination so I could visualize the snowman. Luvs
