Help With Color and Curtains

Working to update the dining room. Hoping a color will help. But what color, and what about the color for the ceilings? Thoughts? Golden yellows? Oranges? Pale olive green? Taupe? Browns?

Thoughts on the valences? Keep or change?

This is a small wine country house with redwood trees out back. We would like a relaxed, contemporary feel. But we are also eclectic - we collect interesting things and are not afraid of color.

Ok.... I really like all the pops of orange you have...great accent color!! My suggestions for color then depending on how bold you want to go are.... Either a deep blue or teal....both look great with orange! Or a more subtle green... Looks like you have some green in your rug. Two completely different looks but if you aren't afraid of color! Are there windows or anything on the other side of the fireplace? I ask to help get a better idea for drapery ideas.

Is privacy a issue? Or are you just wanting something on the windows?

Not a privacy issue at all. Could lose the valence/drapes entirely. They are there now to bring in color and make the patio door look a bit taller.

Love the subway tiles! Also love your wood floors and rugs. But not the valances. I'd start by taking them all down. I prefer windows without drapes, if privacy and glare aren't an issue, but I know most people are attached to the idea of drapes for a decorative finish.

Maybe a green-based cream on the walls and ceiling with cream, green, orange or silver on the trim?

Thanks Feeny. I am beginning to agree as I think the curtains are aging the room. The ceiling are tall and the windows are boring. They don't have any moulding on them. Maybe adding moulding would make me feel better about these boring white vinyl windows.

Thx Stanton Designs. I like the orange too and am wanting to do something to prevent the room from looking like an orange juice ad. Teal, huh ? I'll have to see pictures.
