Do you practice Fengshui?

I'm sitting on the porch with my best buddy, The iPad, enjoying the most perfect weather. :)

I stumbled across a Fengshui website and was wondering if anyone here practices it and if so, do you think you benefit from it?

The only Fengshui thing I know we have is that our front and back doors are no longer aligned. lol

I could research this myself but I wanted to know what others do.

No, not at all. I respect anyone who feels the need to live this way, but I've never been able to get into it myself. It'll be interesting, though, to hear from those that do practice Fengshui, though.

Don't you Feng with my Shui!

Not really, but I do keep a small mirror in my front window. I have dreadful people living across the street from me and the mirror is supposed to reflect their bad chi back to them and away from me.

I'm not so sure it's doing anything but it gives me some small measure of feeling like I am getting some revenge.

Sort of. I mean, we didn't use the criteria when selecting our house, but our house had the right 'feel' when we walked up to it and I think that is because it's laid out correctly under the aspects of feng sui. We have a fountain as you walk to our front door (which faces East) and it's good to have water near there.

I don't have mirrors across from doors or windows, and I try to keep all the elements in every room, just gotta figure out which area to make them give off their best effect. Call me kooky, but I figure if it makes the energy feel a little better, I can use all the help I can get.

I didn't know about the mirror thing. Is it only if you have people living around you?

I do a bit I suppose but I don't think I would say I follow FS purposely. I just kind of feel more comfortable about some things that happen to be good FS. More of a common sense approach to somethings.

I don't like sleeping with anything over my head, like a shelf. I try to live in uncluttered spaces just because clutter makes me nervous and uncomfortable.

I picked paint colors that would help reflect the mood I want to feel in each room of my house. Nothing too shocking or bold.

I did try to get into it more but I was making myself crazy trying to address all the principals and then I'd read conflicting information, etc. so I kind of gave up on it.

Not purposely, but I attended a seminar on Feng Shui just for fun and discovered that I already follow many of the principles without thinking about it. I guess a lot of it is sort of common sense, maybe, as HIWTHI said.

Not at all. I really don't know alot about it.

If I did practice it, I would want to know why it was supposed to work- the underlying belief system.

No. I also don't know much about it, but what I've heard makes no sense to me. Doors facing certain directions, stairs not facing front door... I can't imagine how any of that can affect the luck of your house.

Fun, I was thinking the same thing yesterday, that a lot of it is common sense. Like shelves or a big picture over your head where you sleep. Now that OK. is having earthquakes, that's a no-no. lol

I was really into feng shui for a while; I even had a consultation with an expert to evaluate my home, but it was discouraging, my front door was in the wrong place, she wanted me to enter the house through the garage, the fountain in front of the house was not good, etc.... there are remedies to all that. Over time, I stopped fretting about all this.

The advantage of clearing clutter was the good thing I learned from feng shui, so basically I view it as " you are what you surround yourself with" , so look around your home, throw away sad looking things, dead plants, etc....

One good piece of advice was to NOT have pictures of your kids and your parents in the bedroom, as far your romantic life goes. Logical !

    There are light hearted books on feng shui, and some more serious ones;
as for clutter, I still browse through "Clear your clutter with Feng Shui" once in a while, it's a motivator for me.

I can't think of feng shui without thinking of Penn and Teller. I can't link to their videos because the name of their show is Bull **** and GardenWeb bounces those words, but if you google "Penn Teller feng shui" you will come up with several U-tube videos.

Below is an interesting website. Scroll to the bottom for different FS categories. I found out the colors of my LR are FS. lol

Mitch, I did read to NEVER move the entrance to your house. Oops!

I also read that water in the flowerbed is good, but it depends on the flow. I've been wanting to put in a small birdbath in the front garden but that water doesn't flow. I found it odd when they said to experiment with a bucket of water where you want the fountain for a few months to see what it does. Uh, I think it would only evaporate! What was the reason you were told no fountain?

Here is a link that might be useful: Some Fengshui

No need to practice it now; Feng Shui issues can be handled by AI XD
