vylc - thank you. My cabinets are built locally by Kustom Kraft Cabinets here in Oregon. The wood I chose was knotty Alder, which has lots of visible rustic knots, and details. The stain is a bit complicated. It is a charcoal stain, then very lightly sanded, and coated with a very lightly brown tinted laquer and then a clear laquer.
