I had same problem. I used the waffle type shelf liner on my new table to keep table cloth in place. It did keep tablecloth in place, but stuck to the finish when it was remove after 3 months. I used stripper and left it natural and use poly to protect it. It looks nice, like it made that way. Lucky for me. There are warning on the shelf liner not to use on polyurethane table tops, but I was using left over with no labels on it.

I just discovered the same problem (lucky us), this is the second time I have re-finished it so it's quite annoying.

I found that if I pulled it really fast it took far less of the finish.

I was using cabbots food grade water based finish.

My experience was with the waffle style rug pad leaving residue on the hardwood floor.

I used Goo Gone and a soft cloth and it worked!

Goo gone will compromise any lacquer finish, which seems to be what is on most furniture these days.

Anyone had this issue on a lacquer finish? We had a piano damaged when contractors placed a plastic tarp over it and then sat something on the tarp. Pictures here. Any suggestions?

That lpoks like what happened to myndresser top amd a night stand. i had a jewelry box and itnleft this type of damage.
