Air scoop?

The air scoop? on my heating (boiler) system doesn't seem to be working. I went to drain one of the zones today and there was mostly air in the line. I manually let water into the lines (I know there was some air too), let it circulate, and I couldn't hear the air scoop letting any of the air out. It's fairly new, is there anything I can do to check/fix it?

Also, is the system supposed to take in more water automatically if the water pressure gets low?

Lastly, what PSI should the system be at?

Thanks.

Whats on top of the scoop? Is there a pipe to a open expansion tank, auto air vent or plug? If is is a little auto air vent, is the cap on the schrader valve left loose one-two turns? If not air cant get out. Push on the schrader valve to see if it is functional besides.

For the water pressure, do you have a pressure reducing valve on the the water inlet. Hydronic feeders are preset @ 12# which is good for most 2-story residential homes. When fed at 12#, the pressure when hot rises to 17-25 depending on many things.

Is there any way to post photos? I'm not sure how to explain it, but just took a few pics... The expansion tank hangs below?

There is a way to post pics on here do a quick search, never done it myself

Does the air scoop have any brand name or part numbers on it?

    Hi,

Its called 'H2 Pro' by Flexcon Industries
    Model# HTX-30
    Precharge 12PSIG

Thats the tank, but maybe you have Flexcons scoop, tank and vent package.

So is there a 3-4" high cylindrical auto air vent on top of the scoop with a tire-type valve with cap on it?

Is the cap left loose? Can you bleed air/water by removing cap and depressing the air valve inside with a small item?

That does sound like the setup, but I'll double check to see if I can find a part number on the scoop itself. This is a cap on the top, and it is loose. I tried to push down on the top of the valve the other day, and got no response, but I'll try again.

If you take the cap off and depress on the little stem and get no air/water, then the vent needs to be changed.

However, some vents have built in shut-offs or a shut-off was installed between scoop and vent for ease of service or changeout so check for that also.

    'Taco air scoop A3T105?'

I depressed the valve on the top and did get a squirt of water. It may be that, originally, when the water in the line was so low, the pressure was also, so that's why it wasn't bleeding the excess air out the valve. I'm still surprised that after I refilled the line and circulated the water, that at least a little air wasn't being skimmed of by the air scoop
