Filtration and allergies...

My wife is has allergies, pollen, mold, goldenrod, cats... Although we have 5 cats... We have a new home (1 year old), and the day we moved in I installed filtrete ultra allergen filters(change them every 60 days), and a UV light mounted in the duct to kill stuff. I run the fan for 8 hours a day on top of it cycling on/off for heating and cooling...

The question I have how can I reduce her allergies/make the air cleaner? I know that 5 cats dont help, but what are some other tried solutions? Do we get a HEPA filter? another UV light? Any help would be appriciated!

I have bad allergies so I installed a couple of Trane Clean effects systems. I have noticed a dramatic change in my allergies since I've had the systems. I am allergic to pet dander and we have two dogs (I must really love my wife!) - since we've had the units my allergies have not acted up at all.

I highly recommend the Trane Clean Effects units.

You may have a Trane system - but you likely don't have a Cleaneffects system. Search for that and you'll see one option.

    Electronic air filter.

They use high voltage to charge up dust and debris in the air and then it sticks to the opposite polarity in the 'cell.'

    Honeywell is a large manufacturer.

The problem with regular filter media is that as it gets finer and finer it has a higher air flow resistance.
To keep the pressure drop low a larger filter is then required.

No, I know I dont have a Trane Clean air effects system... I like the Trane Clean air effects system and the American Standard Accuclean system. I was told that the American Standard was just a rebagged Trane... Where can I buy them? I looked on Ebay and dont see them... I dont want an HVAC company to instal it, it looks easy enough! ( I am a Master Electrician) Even if I cant do it a friend of mine is HVAC certified!

What is the model number of your Air Handler , need to size / select the Clean Effects based on cabinet size. Look at the SunPure System , in my opinion better than the Clean Effects and doesn't need to be cleaned MONTHLY exposing yourself to the same stuff your allergic to. In addition, if you shine a UV anywhere on the surface of the Clean Effects, it will fall apart in time.
