New Heat Pump

About 2 and 1/2 years ago I was forced to replace two heat pump systems @ my home. Those of you in the hvac business know that these things are rather pricey so it was a tough decision for an amateur like me to decide between the various proposals I received.. and that's when I started reading this forum and one thing I learned from the start was as important as the brand name you buy, is the quality of the installation and the reputation of the dealer. How important is that? My friends let me tell you I have found it is paramount! About two months ago I started having issues with our 5 ton unit.. The gentleman that owns the hvac business from where I purchased my unit's, is also the installer...called him up and his secretary sent him out here. After several unsuccessful trips to remedy the problem ( too lengthy to go into here ) my hvac man did something I never expected him to do. He replaced the entire outside unit with a new one. We're talking about an 18 seer 2 stage scroll compressor unit.. Not a dime out of my pocket, and mind you this is 2 and a half years after the initial installation. I know I had a limited 10 yr warranty but I was pleasantly surprised when he called to tell me he was going to replace the unit at no cost to me. While I may have had issues with the original unit, I have NO issues with the contractor.. so learning the lesson I picked up here on this forum about choosing a contractor you feel comfortable with came full circle for me. My hvac guy was not the cheapest, but he has a great reputation for customer service, and being a "small" business where he not only owns the company but does the installs himself, made me very comfortable with my choice of contractors. The new unit was installed this afternoon, just in time for the 20 degree temps due to arrive here later tonight.. Thank you to all who help us "amateurs " out when we find ourselves needing to make decisions that most of us know very little about..

a nice story-one that you normally would not see.

this was an Air Ease HP?

good equipment, good install, good ductwork system, and reliable/reputable dealer are the components that usually equal a satisfied customer.

    Good Luck!

We read about many bad experiences on this forum. It is nice to hear a good story with a happy ending. Thanks for sharing it.

Don't forget to recommend this contractor to your friends!

For someone to 'do the right thing' without any prodding is so good to see in here. This speaks volumes for taking the time to find the best bang for the buck on equipment AND the company/installer your doing business with.

Yes Tiger, it is an Air Ease heat pump... Model # 4SHP18LT160P. Really glad to have this new unit installed, was running on strip heat and my electric bill for the past month was over 310.00 my house is nearly 3000 sq.ft. and that is at least 100.00 more than it would normally be given the weather we've been having, really cold for louisiana.

I sure wish Lennox would own up to their lemons. I am currently running on emergency backup heat waiting for service call number twenty next week. Dealers have been changing out parts since January, 2009 with no success. DO NOT BUY LENNOX! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!

Here is a link that might be useful: Link to Lennox reviews by owners. Scary!

Kitnkat.... sorry to hear about your situation. Lennox huh? My unit's are made by Air Ease, a company I had never heard of until I had to replace my old worn out units. If I'm not mistaken, Air Ease is a divisionn of Lennox, or owned by Lennox, but may not actually be manufactured by Lennox, not sure of the connection. I know that my hvac contractor could have kept trying to change out parts until the issue was resolved, but instead he and the manufacturer decided to replace the entire unit, but not before an Air Ease rep came to my house to look things over himself... I feel very fortunate that my contractor is such a stand up guy and did the right ( although completely unexpected ) thing. Like you, I was running on strip heat and my elec. bills were at least 120 bucks a month more than normal. Glad to be back on the Hp again... good luck with your issues.
