I would pick two geometric (circles possibly) pattern panels with colors that you are using in the room for visual interest for the baby. A pretty plaid would work really well too. The base (main) color in the curtains should contrast with the wall color, maybe the light gray or the yellow. Good Luck & Congrats!

When you say curtains, do you mean the type that Selma Hammer Designs posted above? I ask, because many of my clients say curtains, when they mean any type of window fashions. Will this be a layered treatment, with the mini-blinds as the base layer? We have to start with questions to give you the best consultation.

I think you need to bring more gray into the room. I like a pattern drapery with a white roller shade. Look for something like this: Or this cute pattern:

I like yellow and blue together because its bright, happy and gives a contrast. Also something with a pattern adds more interest.

I think that you need to balance the mood you want to create in your son's room with the feeling you want to have every time that you walk into his room. I know that I really enjoy bold colors and dynamic patterns. but if you need your son to be calm, then soothing materials, textures and colors may make a difference. Think of it this way, if you are having custom draperies made, then you should be having this conversation with a window fashions expert, who can work with you one on one to choose the right material. If you are going the ready-made route, then choose a simple rod, in this case I suggest a white one, and then have fun with the panels. They aren't expensive enough to rue your decision. Buy a few different ones and change them at your whim. In the end, you have far more important things to worry about than which fabric to choose!!! Make the wild choice, you won't regret it.

Very true Paul, much more important things to worry about than curtains and fabric! We have two plain white curtain panels in our guest room right now that are short. I was thinking of just adding a stripe of one of the fabrics from the quilt onto those to make them longer and also more interesting.

If you are on a budget -- make your own. Buy inexpensive panels and practice with shapes and paint on paper first. You could use leaves, you and your husband's hands (hand prints are very cool!), geometric blocks. Natalie and Hoasan are on the right track with stimulation. I do like the zoology look but does it speak to you? Best of luck. Congratulations on your latest addition to the family. You did well on the room design so far, good job. Tack down the rug though if there isn't a slip resistor under it. PS. You can always think outside the box as well and do shutters on the inside of the home. Just a popcorn thought if you aren't keen on fabrics.

forget curtains, change out blind to top down, bottom up one and go with barely blue color or white

I'm leaning toward a gray and white geometric print or a yellow and blue geometric print as of right now. Time to look for fabric!

Please don't use a corded product in a child's room, especially not a top down bottom up shade. I would not even leave the mini blind there. There are tons of corded products that have been recalled in recent years due to cord hazards. Many shade/blind companies are going with cordless products and soft furnishings-like roman shades are now to be fabricated with new cord safety standards. DON'T chance having a corded product in your child's room.

Very pretty room. I like your idea of reusing the white curtains from your guest room. Rather than simply adding a panel at the bottom how about cutting the curtains and inserting a strip of fabric. This way you keep the curtain hems and they look more 'designed' than 'altered'. Use a flat seam such as a french seam or trim the seam with braid or binding if you want a more decorative effect. Ensure that the two fabrics are of similar weight. If the curtains are lined you may find that alteration is more work than it is worth. If you are doing the work yourself do make sure you do it before your son arrives - you won't have the time or energy for much one he's on the scene!
