Price quote on Carrier Heat Pump Installation

I just received a quote from a local eastern PA Carrier dealer to install a 3 ton heat pump (model #25HNA636) with 2 speed compressor and variable speed fan coil (model #FE4AN003)for $8950, less $1000 rebate. Heat pump is listed at 16+ SEER. Price includes concrete base slab for outdoor unit, snow feet, indoor fan coil unit, Infinity thermostat, 10kw resistance heater, all power and control wiring, all new interior/exterior lines installed, scroll compressor and 5yr parts/labor, 10yr compressor warranty. Sounds how to me, but I'm not familiar with the market for these types of items. The dealer is a highly reputable local dealer. Any thoughts

You will get more efficiency with the *005 air handler--ask your dealer about this. I'm surprised you weren't quoted this as I believe the size difference is negligible. Nice system. How about a media air cleaner? Price doesn't seem terrible ($7950) for such a high end system.

The 25HNA6 Infinity heat pumps DO NOT have a scroll compressor, so if you were told it did, you were lied to. The 25HNA9 Infinity heat pumps have the scroll compressor. The 25HNA6 comes with a reciprocating compressor which actually has a better capacity split 50%/100% between 1st. and 2nd. stage.

Why do you need a 2 stage compressor in Eastern PA? The 2 stage unit is why the price is high.

Have they quoted a single stage unit?
5 year parts warranty is weak. 5 year labor warranty is good.

A 25HNA636 condenser with FE4AN003 air handler is:
34,000 btu cooling (36,000 btu is a full 3 tons), 11.9 EER, 15.5 SEER, 32,600 btu heating at 47F, 8.6 HSPF, 18,600 btu heating at 17F

The 005 air handler does have better numbers as Ryan stated:
35,400 btu cooling, 12.4 EER, 16.2 SEER, 33,800 btu heating at 47F, 8.8 HSPF, 19,000 btu heating at 17F.

Gary is correct. You can select Carrier's sgl stage Performance 15 model with Infinity controller and save yourself some change. Yes, you may lose a little comfort and operating efficiency but the overall performance numbers are just as good as the Infinity 16. See below for a great system configuration.
